Welcome to The Retreat at Silvies Valley Ranch
If you could travel back 200 years, you would see the Oregon that the homesteaders saw – landscapes interrupted only by distant mountains and beaver filled streams.
Today the ranch has been restored to much of its former glory. Besides a working cattle ranch, it is now a renowned luxury guest ranch, and one of the top-100 golf resorts in the world as well.
It is where guests (now friends) come again and again…
Lodging at The Retreat at Silvies Valley Ranch
Lakeside Log Cabins
Silvies Lakeside Log Cabins have one or two bedrooms with king size beds, refreshing rain showers, fully stocked in-room wine cooler, stone floors, your own personal hot tub, a comfy living room with fireplace with expansive view of Camp Creek Meadow just down the boardwalk from the lodge, plush with western decor throughout. They’re the perfect place to spend a long weekend or even a month relaxing in the quiet desert solitude.
Sunrise Cabins
Each Sunrise Cabin was designed with a foursome of buddies or couples in mind. Four king bedrooms each with it’s own bathroom, giant rain shower and double sink. The great room for games, TVs, fire rings, and maybe a quick snack or enjoy a bottle of wine. The off grid sustainable, polar powered cabin is the perfect hangout for a 2-7 night stay.
Rancher’s Suite Double and Single King
Rancher’s Suites each have their own entry for a fast escape to the golf course, spa or your next ranch adventure. Each is comfortably decorated with ranch art, and includes a rain shower, stocked mini-bar, leather furniture and large flat-screen TVs. Singles have jacuzzi baths.
Golf at The Retreat at Silvies Valley Ranch
Experience world-class golf, designed and built by celebrated architect Dan Hixson, and providing a unique and sustainable perspective on the ancient game amidst the rugged timeless beauty of the Silvies Valley.
Craddock Course
The Craddock, named for the Craddock family – John “Jake” Craddock and his four sons – who settled and consolidated much of the valley, is a championship 18-hole layout that traverses the ridges that overlook Silvies Valley.
The course direction is reversed each day to create a different layout with a variety of pin placements and tee box options, creating thousands of unique rounds. While the course is free of water hazards, there are over a hundred bunkers incorporated into the course design.
Like designers of old, Dan also led the team that actually built the courses every day and he, himself, made every design decision, no matter how small. The Campbell Family provided the place, the water, the equipment, and the resources.
Hankins Course
Hankins, named for the pioneering Hankins clan who homesteaded much of the ranch, presents an opposite perspective to the natural landscape and elevations that highlight the playing experience. Hankins No. 18 is known as the “Hixson Hole,” as it presents the 12 legal advantages in golf to ensure players will “nail it” off the tee and send the ball on the longest drive of your life. And if you do, the reward awaits in Egan’s Hideout when your round is complete.

Chief Egan Course
The mountain meadow course on the Paiute Creek is a Dan Hixson-designed 9-hole par-3 layout, with water on every hole.
Named for Chief Egan, the last War Chief of the Paiute Tribe who engaged the U.S. Calvary in 1882. This location on Paiute Creek is the closest place to Egan’s last camp during the conflict. Most agree that he and the Calvary would have been better off here, sipping a Silvies Valley Horseshoe Nail and making friends of adversaries, as we invite you to do today.
In alignment with our environmental sustainability ethic, the Chief Egan course is completely off the electrical grid, powered by roof-mounted solar panels; water is gravity-fed from Paiute Spring, about a mile northwest of the course. Please enjoy what Chief Egan and the U.S. Calvary were never able to.
McVeigh’s Gauntlet Course
This stunning 7-hole course is meant to be a fun, care-free course to help players settle bets and test their accuracy on a series of undulating par 3’s and par 4’s. Carved into a razor back and challenging in design, golfers will marvel at the views while exploring the course and its Western appeal.
McVeigh’s Gauntlet is named for Myles McVeigh, an early pioneer who homesteaded in the Silvies Valley. A drinking buddy of the Craddock brothers and the Hankins boys, he settled on Paiute Creek and upper Camp Creek.
Claire’s Courses
Claire’s Courses is the first 18-hole reversible putting course in the world! As if that wan’t exciting enough, this course is also free for all guests at Silvies Valley Ranch! Circling the lower half of Otter lake, this beautiful course has water hazards on every hole. Named for Claire Owens, legend has it Claire was the first woman to play golf in Silvies Valley (on Myles McVeigh’s course). She was also a member of the Silvies School Board (and coach of the Silvies Golf Team?!).
