Abaco, Bahamas
Welcome to The Abaco Club
The Abaco Club on Winding Bay was created to be a rare kind of club community: a private tropical paradise where club members, homeowners, and their guests can escape the rigors of everyday life and relax, recreate, and rejuvenate in a setting so beautiful as to defy description. A true sporting club, The Abaco Club offers a world of wonders including the #1 golf course in The Bahamas, a spa and wellness facility, water sports, tennis, pickleball and basketball courts, gourmet dining, and the club’s crown jewel—an incomprehensibly beautiful, 2-mile, powder-soft beach that serves as the gateway to the tranquil waters of Winding Bay. In the surrounding waters, club members and their guests can avail themselves of the area’s world-famous saltwater flats fishing, thrilling deep-sea fishing, and the serene boating and sailing waters of the Sea of Abaco.
For members, the club is a place to return to again and again—for walks on the beach, golf events, soothing spa treatments, and lazy days spent under the warm Bahamian sun. For homeowners, it’s all these things plus the opportunity to own a personal residence on one of the most beautiful island properties in existence.
In short, the Abaco Club is a quiet refuge from the world, where families come together, friendships are made, good times are enjoyed, and a lifetime of memories are created. Prospective members or homeowners can experience the club on a discovery visit that can be arranged through Garrett Lutkins. When you do, don’t be surprised if you decide you want to become part of our magical island community too.

Golf at The Abaco Club
True links golf courses represent a small fraction of the world’s golf opportunities. The great majority of them are situated in places like Ireland and Scotland—locations where the weather can turn an average round of golf into a battle with the elements. The Abaco Club offers the best of both worlds: a heralded Scottish-style links design set hard by the sea and a climate that’s ideal for enjoying the outdoors. Designed by renowned golf course architects Donald Steel and Tom Mackenzie, the course at The Abaco Club makes the most of its sparkling seaside setting. Classic links design features abound, from the pot bunkers that dot its rugged location in the dunes to the challenging, sloping greens. Designed to play firm and fast, this course is not your usual Caribbean holiday course. Bring your A-game—and your camera. It won’t take long for you to see why the golf course at The Abaco Club has been considered the number-one in Bahamas golf since the day it debuted.
The Club also features a world-class practice facility that features a double-end range, as well as a short-game practice area designed to enable you to practice every shot of 100 yards or less that you might encounter on the course. Golf instructional programs and private lessons are offered on a year-round basis by the club’s expert PGA professional staff, and there is a full slate of highly enjoyable club events and tournaments throughout the year.
Dining at The Abaco Club
THE CLIFF HOUSE
Evening cocktails and dinner are served in The Cliff House, an octagonal clubhouse that overlooks Winding Bay from high on the ridge at Ocean Point. There, the catch of the day will be just one of many delicious choices you’ll have as you watch the sun go down over the clear, blue water of the bay. Local favorites include fresh lobster, blackened grouper, and the ever-popular conch chowder.
THE BEACH HOUSE
This beachfront restaurant is where members gather around the table with friends or family to connect over great food and abundant wine overlooking the turquoise waters of Winding Bay. Inspired by Mediterranean cuisine, meals are informal, warm, and breezy. Long conversations are surrounded by local seafood caught that day, perfectly prepared pizzas from the Marra Forni handcrafted brick oven, tantalizing shared plates, and the clinking of ice from perhaps, just one, too many Aperol Spritzes. Great food, Great views, and Great Company – There is nothing better to end a day.
FLIPPERS BEACH BAR
Imagine waking in the morning, slipping into your sandals, and sitting down to an open-air breakfast featuring fresh Bahamian fruit while you watch the sun cast its first rays over one of the world’s most beautiful beaches. At The Abaco Club, it’s a daily occurrence. Flippers Beach Bar, where breakfasts and lunches are made to order and served with an island smile, is part tiki hut, part sidewalk cafe, part casual bistro. Decidedly low-key, it’s the perfect spot to relax with family and friends and taste the many flavors of Abaco before beginning your day or setting off on your next adventure. On Wednesday evenings, Flippers comes alive to the sound of a local “rake ‘n’ scrape” band as club members and guests enjoy barbecue night, complete with dancing, beach bonfire, and s’mores for the kids.
TIP-TOP
If you’re looking for an inspired bar menu and a stunning view, Tip-Top is the perfect spot. This casual dining area features delectable bites made with the same fresh ingredients you’ll find at the Cliff House. Take a dip in the infinity pool overlooking Winding Bay for a truly spectacular experience. Sip on delicious cocktails around the fire pit as the sun sets over the water. This patio offers the ultimate casual luxury island dining experience.
TINGUM FOOD TRUCK
No shirt, no shoes, no problem at the Tingum food truck! You won’t have to leave the beach to enjoy amazing, fresh Mexican-style tacos and casual Bahamian fare. Parked between the beach and the golf closure on hole 5, Tingum is serving up beachside tacos with grilled lobster, conch, steak, and chicken, alongside other light snacks so you don’t miss one second of a perfect Bahamian beach day!
PRIVATE DINING
Have our incredible Private Catering Chef come to your home and personally cook for your family or your guests! Whether it’s two people or twenty, you can choose from our specially designed, island-inspired menus or talk to the Chef and craft your own. We can even build menus around your catch of the day. We will clean and fillet the catch, then bring it back to your home and prepare it perfectly, just for you. Our menus can be served plated or family style, depending on your preference. All of our fish is caught locally, and much of our fresh produce comes directly from Driftwood Farms in Schooner Bay. We import only the finest USDA Prime cuts and make all our desserts in-house, including our fabulous ice creams and sorbets.
Lifestyle at The Abaco Club
Beach
The Abaco Club has been graced with topography that is both stunning and diverse, highlighted by more than two miles of powder-soft beach on Winding Bay. Sheltered from rough ocean waves by a coral reef and a small island, Sugar Cay, it’s the ideal place to relax in the sun (or under a natural palm-frond umbrella), forget every care in the world, and watch the sea birds scamper about like happy children. If you feel like being more active, the swimming is divine—in shallow, crystal-clear waters that warmly welcome swimmers of all ages. Or, you can go for a quiet walk—the sun-splashed stroll from one end of the beach to the other is the kind of fitness routine that completely refreshes the soul.
Boating
One of the best things about owning a home or vacationing on an island is that you’re surrounded by water. In the case of The Abaco Club, that water just happens to constitute one of the most treasured areas for boating and sailing in the world. The small, offshore barrier islands and cays that surround Great Abaco create the protected Sea of Abaco, making it an ideal location for boating and sailing. The azure waters around Abaco are reputed to host the fourth-largest reef system in the world, stretching for more than 120 miles in all, and are home to innumerable species of spectacular sea life, from dolphins to sea turtles to brightly colored tropical fish. From your Abaco Club home base, you can cruise to Hope Town on Elbow Cay for lunch. Venture to Great Guana Cay for the famous Sunday pig roast at Nipper’s Beach Bar & Grill. Explore the historic village of New Plymouth on Green Turtle Cay. Or just stop off on Treasure Cay, or any of the dozens of smaller deserted cays, for a barefoot walk or a private picnic on a beach.
To make your boating adventures even easier and more enjoyable, you can schedule excursions one of the club’s three boats:
- Paradise – a 54-foot luxury motor yacht, perfect for smooth cruises, cocktail hour, and island picnicking
- Parrotfish – 33-foot Intrepid Center Console boat, ideal for a day of fishing and snorkeling around the Bahamian waters
- Finnegans Wake – 39-foot Contender boat, ideal for a day of fishing, Cays hopping, or taking in a beautiful bahamian sunset
And since so many Club members own boats, it’s only natural that the Club should offer the best in boating and marina services. The Abaco Yacht Club, located at Little Harbour, accommodates boats up to 50 feet and all the requisite onshore services that boaters need.
The Abaco Yacht Club
Boating and fishing are two favorite pursuits of Abaco Club members and residents. And with the crystal-clear waters of the Sea of Abaco just minutes from the property, it’s only natural that the Club should offer the best in boating and marina services. The Abaco Yacht Club, located at Little Harbour, accommodates boats up to 50 feet, boat rentals, and charters, and all the requisite onshore services, including storage, on-site security, fresh-water access, and electricity.
Facilities also include a clubhouse offering locker rooms, restrooms, laundry facilities, bait and ice, beverages and sundries, and a harbour master’s office.
Little Harbour
Just a few minutes from The Abaco Club lies the picturesque oasis known as Little Harbour. It’s here that you’ll find The Abaco Yacht Club, with its dedicated boat slips for club members, along with a members’ clubhouse, sundries shop, and a host of services for boaters. Little Harbour is sheltered on all sides, and quite shallow at low tide. But for boaters, it’s a very special kind of paradise, a hidden enclave that’s at the same time one of Abaco’s worst-kept secrets.
In the 1950’s, Randolph and Margot Johnson settled here with their children, reportedly living in nearby caves while they worked to create a small art community. Randolph Johnson established a foundry here, and became internationally known for his bronze sculptures. The Johnson family still operates the foundry and associated gallery, as well as neighboring Pete’s Pub—an open-air beach bar serving some of the freshest fish and most creative rum drinks in the islands. There’s nothing fancy about Pete’s, as its sand floor and roof constructed of colorful t-shirts and flags will attest. But the excellent food is uniquely Bahamian and well worth a visit.
Amenities at The Abaco Club
Water Sports
The Abaco Club’s location on sheltered Winding Bay creates the ideal water sports playground. Here, you can enjoy the clear waters of The Bahamas in a setting where gentle waves predominate. The beach then becomes your departure point for snorkeling, kayaking, Hobie Cat sailing, paddleboarding, and other water sports. FunCat electric catamarans and water hammocks are just two of the other fun and relaxing choices. The Club staff can not only set you up with all the right gear, they can also provide instruction for water sports enthusiasts of any age or skill level—and show you where to look for the most colorful fish!
Fishing
The waters surrounding The Abaco Club are teeming with world-class opportunities for fishing enthusiasts. Trophy bonefish, permit, and tarpon fishing is a serious sport in these parts, and a particular favorite with both club members and visitors who take to the mangrove flats for one of the most exciting saltwater flats fly fishing in the world. Bonefish are wary adversaries—and real fighters. You’ll need to be patient– and cunning– to land them, but when you do, it’s exhilarating. The Abaco Club is partnered with Blackfly Lodge, the area’s premier fishing guide, and offers unrivaled access to all Blackfly has to offer.
In deeper water, trolling in the 8’-20’ depths of the Sea of Abaco can net you grouper, wahoo, snapper, triggerfish, yellowtail, and dolphin fish. Outside the barrier reef in The Atlantic Ocean proper, even bigger game awaits. Sport-fishermen from around the world descend on these deeper waters in search of mahi-mahi, blue marlin, sailfish, and blackfin and yellowfin tuna. Boats with impressive arrays of outriggers will be seen here, all intent on zeroing in on a big catch.
The Club Concierge can recommend guides and also assist with boat rentals for those interested in fishing while at the club.
Tennis & Pickleball
Life at The Abaco Club isn’t all about lounging in the sun and sipping colorful rum drinks. Tennis and pickleball are two forms of active recreation that are extremely popular with Club members. The Club offers two all-weather, hard-surface tennis courts—the same ones used at the U.S. Open Tennis Championships and three all-weather, hard surface pickleball courts with lights so the fun doesn’t have to end at sundown. There are regular club competitions, as well as instructional sessions and private lessons. The courts are located in their own, private enclave amongst the palms next to our basketball court, within walking distance of all the homes, cottages, and other club amenities.
In addition to daily clinics and year-round tennis and pickleball competitions and events, our tennis pro at the Club also offers private lessons, semi-private and group lessons, children’s tennis camps, cardio tennis workouts, and more.
Spa & Fitness
Beauty. Tranquility. The feeling of being totally at ease. These qualities are cornerstones of The Abaco Club experience. Nowhere are they better illustrated than in the services provided at the Club’s luxurious full-service spa. The Abaco Club spa is a place where you can relax, rejuvenate, and revitalize body and soul. It’s a place where you can choose from a wide range of signature therapeutic treatments and emerge feeling reborn. Treatments like the Royal Hibiscus Signature Facial, Bahamian Rhythmic Touch Therapy, and the popular sugar and salt scrubs utilize clinically proven products from Eminence, along with other locally sourced natural elements, to leave you looking and feeling wonderful.
The Club’s Fitness Center features state-of-the-art Life Fitness equipment designed to help you make the most of your workouts. The Club also offers a range of other fitness and exercise programs, including the very popular morning yoga on the day dock, HIIT morning sessions as well as personal training opportunities.
