The Island
Powerful, gracious, yet passionately competitive, Arnold Palmer’s playing style and personality revolutionized the game. These elements also made him a visionary designer—the Island Nine shares the personality of its architect, at once challenging and auspicious.

The spectacular hardwoods and pines along the river bank have been saved and the fairways have been raised to take advantage of the beautiful vistas out in the rivers. The Bluff
The Golden Bear’s acumen for creating iconic courses rivaled his uncanny ability to win. Evident in his approach to the Bluff Nine course design, Jack Nicklaus used the natural tendencies of the land to amplify both its risks and rewards.
“This is a nice, rolling piece of property with mature pines throughout. Very little dirt has been moved, which means the course fits nicely with the existing terrain and its surroundings. This is the kind of site that provides you the opportunity to design a golf course that on opening day will appear as if it’s been there for 50 years. There is a great deal of variety in the routing, with this nine featuring uphill and downhill shots, as well as a balance of right-to-left and left-to-right holes.”

The Creek
“The Black Knight” nickname speaks to Gary Player’s gentlemanly demeanor and intense approach to the game. Built to challenge and to charm, the Creek Nine is the vision of a man who understands the worth of both power and form.
“The site for the Creek Nine at Champions Retreat offered so many opportunities for a wonderful golf course. The opening four holes play a beautiful wetland area while the remaining holes move upland through native hardwood tress. The ninth dramatically plays over and around a large lake on the right. All level players will finish the nine with a variety of shot- making challenges.”

The Cottages
The Cottages are your home away from home at Champions Retreat. Highlighted by luxurious touches, each beautifully designed unit accommodates four to eight couples, a chef’s kitchen, and comfortable spaces for entertaining around a fireplace, outdoor porch or fire pit.
Grille House
Our dining venue features distinctive menu options, refined yet understated service, and a commitment to complete culinary satisfactions.
Bluff Overlook
This private space with a million-dollar view is served over the Grille House, and is ideal for a memorable cocktail party or casual gathering as you enjoy a wraparound deck offering golf course vistas.

Our Story at Champions Retreat Golf Club
Our Beginning
In 1999 the concept of Champions Retreat was born. Sculpt 27 holes of championship golf from 365 acres of skyward Georgia pines, long-standing hardwoods and wetlands. Sprinkle in luxury accommodations to include hardwood flooring, charming fireplaces and welcoming porches and create a unique golf environment down the road from the Augusta National. Gary Player chose the Masters Champions Dinner in 1999 as his setting to recruit Jack Nicklaus and Arnold Palmer to share in the creation of this dream.
As the Big 3, they were the most iconic figures to ever play the game. Between them, 13 green jackets, 34 Major victories and 159 tournament wins. Never before had these three each created their own individually designed course at one property, making Champions Retreat a singularly unique experience in the world of golf and their collective efforts by 2005.
Our Future
With the foundation for an amazing property laid, Champions Retreat began a transformation in 2014 under the new ownership of Bill Forrest. The vision to further elevate Champions Retreat through improvement of the courses to create national caliber playing surfaces, ensure elevated, bespoke hospitality, beverage and service, as well as control the methodology through professional management was the focus.
Since 2019, Champions Retreat has been adding the new generation of Champions. Jennifer Kupcho’s win of the Inaugural Augusta National Women’s Amateur, followed by Japan’s Tsubasa Kajitani win in 2021 have furthered the lore of a breeding ground for championship golf. Future Augusta National Women’s Amateur events are to be played at Champions Retreat in 2022, 2023 and 2024. In addition, six touring Professionals call Champions Retreat home, representing the PGA, Champions and Korn Ferry Tours. Both Luke List and Scott Parel boast victories in the past 3 years.
