If you are responsible for your website and Google Analytics, here are a few things that you should be aware of with your analytics reports.
It’s a given that every club has a website. If you didn’t, you’d be losing a lot of business. But if you aren’t constantly reviewing the analytics from your website, and running reports, you could still be losing people daily. So, here are some tips and tricks to help you close more sales and get the right people to your door who have already seen your site. With Google Analytics, you can see where these people are viewing you from, and where they’re going on your website and for how long.
Filters
Filters are used to segment the data into smaller groups and being able to exclude different IP Addresses and location. Knowing how many people view your site or search for your site is extremely important. This helps you know whether you need to put more time and effort into your site or leave it go. But how are you able to find out if these are current members, employees or new prospects ready to find their dream club or home? The answer is simple – filters. Set up the filters on your website to block these individuals from showing up on your reports.
Behavior and Events
Setting up events that you find under the behavior tab can be crucial. An Event is when someone does something on the site, such as, clicked a contact button, spent a certain amount of time on a page, or even watching your club video. This is important to know because it can tell you the number of people that do things on your website you want them too. But it can help you change your website if the bounce rate is too high or you aren’t seeing the results you would like to see.
Browser & OS
This is excruciatingly important and if you haven’t looked at this report before, finish this paragraph and then go straight to it. This will tell you what Browser people are viewing your site on. This is important because each browser (Internet Explorer, Safari or Chrome) may not recognize or read your site properly. Take a look at the bounce rate in each of these categories. If it’s above 75%, you may have a big issue on your hands. Check this report regularly to make sure you are up to date. Each Browser updates frequently and it’s important to know that it may not be showing your site correctly.
Side Note: If you are using Internet Explorer you may be in trouble. Ever wonder why you have so many updates? Well, that’s because they are trying to make it better but also because of Hackers. Have you ever read the fine print in an update? In every update you get, whether it’s on your phone or an app or for your browser, they tell you what they have fixed including their security issues. This is a Red Flag! Because it basically tells hackers how they can access your computer if you haven’t updated it! Hackers have basically destroyed Internet Explorer and if you have any information saved in there such as passwords or accounts you could be in trouble. Not to mention that Internet Explorer had so many bugs that could ruin your web experience.
Also, they have discontinued Internet Explorer and they now have Microsoft Edge.
Site Speed
The Site Speed reports show how quickly users are able to see and interact with content. Site speed can be crucial. Ever wonder why you don’t get many inquiries, or not enough traffic, or even that someone else out ranks you on Google’s search? Well your pages may be slow to load, and many people don’t have the patience to wait to learn about the social events at your club. This could be caused by a picture being too large of a file, which slows down everything. A tip is to use the website Pingdom ( https://tools.pingdom.com/ ). This site will show you how fast your page is and what you need to do to fix it.
