Welcome to Haig Point
Hilton Head Island, South Carolina

Welcome to Haig Point
EVEN BEFORE YOU ARRIVE, YOU KNOW YOU’VE LEFT FOR GOOD.
When you live on a bridgeless island, what first strikes you is what’s missing. Cars. Noise. Crowds. Stress. And then you realize that there really isn’t anything missing at all. On the southernmost tip of the Carolinas, Haig Point is an intimate community set upon an island suspended in time. It is not an escape from life, but a deeper immersion into it. And that’s the whole point.

Island Living at Haig Point
You may not necessarily appreciate what you don’t hear, but gradually, you awaken to the music of nature. The wind in the trees, the rustle of the marsh grass, the roll of the tide. The absence of motors, horns and traffic. You miss nothing of the world left behind, but treasure all that is not. Once you cross over, you never look back. And there are countless reasons why.
The most private beach in the Carolinas
A long oyster shell road traces a sandy shore … two soft white threads that weave our community together. Here, between marsh grasses and the water’s edge we let the tides and sun tell time. Water is our muse and we immerse ourselves in it barefoot and carefree from first light to last rays. Here we ride, run and stroll. Chase fiddler crabs, count dolphins, fly kites, gather sand dollars, sway in hammocks. We are all children here.
Let’s take our hearts for a ride and listen to the tides.
On Two Wheels
Whether winding through mossy oak draped lanes or cruising along the beach road on miles of brilliant white crushed oyster shells, it’s on two wheels that we most enjoy the Point. Pancake flat, there’s little effort in traipsing from a morning coffee to a few sets of tennis. Or to line up the family for a jaunt to the beach. Haig and a cruiser with a basket, simple pleasures.
On Four Wheels
The best part of living on the Point? It’s impossible to say – the ferry, your own beach, the quiet, the people? The one thing on which all agree is carts instead of cars. It’s a tipping point. Taking the slow road is just the elixir so necessary today.
This is Island Living
However you arrive, you’ll quickly leave the world as you knew it behind. Now you are surrounded by sea and sky, by kindred spirits and a vibrant club life, all set upon your own private isle.

Golf at Haig Point
A Golf Digest Top 100 Course – 29 Holes of Seaside Golf
If there is anywhere on the Point where pictures are worth 1,000 words it is our Rees Jones masterpiece. The design and physical beauty are breathtaking, and both contribute to an incomparable experience. Even in a region recognized for landmark golf courses, Haig Point consistently draws accolades and hosts noteworthy tournaments.
First designed in 1986, the initial routing included 20 holes, including the two extra greens. Jones’ returned to Daufuskie Island in 2007 to restore the greens and sharpen the course’s legacy as one of the best in the nation. Yardage increased from 7,150 to 7,380 and improved our USGA rating.
Part of the fun of playing Haig’s Signature course is that both the 8th and 17th seaside holes have two greens to choose from. But there is more, for throughout the Signature and Osprey courses there are multiple tee boxes, many of which present entirely different vantages, distances and wind conditions. Every day on these courses is different because you can play a different scorecard.
THE SIGNATURE COURSE
The Signature course has appeared in Golf Digest’s “America’s 100 Greatest Courses” and “Best in State,” and has earned a coveted position in Golf Magazine’s “Top 100 in the World.” Par is 72, rating is 74.9 and slope rating of 142. At once challenging and rewarding.
OSPREY COURSE
This 9-hole beauty boasts breathtaking surroundings and views. It offers a fast, friendly option for those who are new to the game or are out for a casual tune up. The par 36 Osprey course consists of Bermuda grass and has a rating of 74.9 with a slope rating of 142. Perfect for a quick round before or after the workday, and often enjoyed with the family in tow.
REES JONES GOLF COURSES ARE SIMPLY SAID, BEAUTIFUL.
Known for his excellence, Rees Jones has earned the nickname, “The Open Doctor” referring to the number of his courses that host majors, including the U.S. Open, Ryder Cup, and PGA Championship. Haig’s 29 holes are classic Jones’ architecture and never disappoint. Complementing the experience are an exceptional Practice Facility, Golf Shop, and a stately Clubhouse and restaurant.

Tennis & Wellness at Haig Point
TAKES CENTER COURT
On the Point, everything still starts with ‘love‘. The Tennis Center at Haig Point is a place to gather, to learn and improve. Inside the clubhouse, the latest attire and equipment to be at your best, a robust fitness center to strengthen your game, and a lap pool to cool off when you retire.
Tennis and now pickleball at Haig Point are active, engaging, and year-round. Clinics and private lessons in both racquet sports are held for every type of player, beginner to advanced. In addition, the six Har-Tru courts regularly host USTA-sanctioned adult and senior leagues, regional tournaments, and professional exhibitions. The United States Tennis Association has granted the Haig Point Tennis Center its Outstanding Tennis Facility Award.
FITNESS & SWIM CENTER
The Fitness Center is the perfect place to tone up when you choose to do so indoors. The center is also home to a well-equipped Tennis Shop and an adult lap pool. You’ll also find all the group fitness classes, services and personal training you’d expect – water aerobics, Zumba, yoga and more.

Equestrian at Haig Point
The Equestrian Centers at Haig Point are as spacious and well-equipped as they are charming – set under spreading oaks and ringed by the arching fences of training rings and pastures. There are in fact two separate facilities, a private stable within the gates that is exclusive to Haig Point members, and a second facility that supports trail and beach rides for members, guests and the visiting public on Daufuskie Island.
Setting out from the Melrose Stables, riders may enjoy a winding trail ride to the beach, and when our sea turtle friends are not nesting, a brisk canter down the long stretch of white sand. It is an extremely rare opportunity to ride in the surf along this magnificently unspoiled stretch of the Atlantic coast. In addition, several trails for beginner and intermediate riders take in the sea island beauty of Haig Point and Daufuskie Island. There are pony rides and pony lessons for the young horsemen and horsewomen in the family.
At Haig Point is a 12-stall barn, complete with tack room, lounge, restroom, office and wash/grooming stalls. The stables open out to three, meticulously manicured acres. Boarding includes daily pasture maintenance to provide horses with adequate grazing. There are four turnout pastures as well as a riding arena and round pen.

Outdoor Pursuits at Haig Point
HAIG POINT BOAT CLUB
A grassy path and long dock lead from the Mansion grounds to a 12-boat dock, home to the popular Haig Point Boat Club. Like all things on the Point the mantra is effortless and carefree. Members arriving from Charleston and points north tie up here, as do those coming daytripping or overnighting from Hilton Head marinas.
The program includes dry dock storage – we drop in and haul out – as well as handle provisions and necessary essentials for days on the water.
YACHT CLUB AFFILIATION
Haig Point enjoys agreements where our respective members share amenities with the South Carolina and Windmill Harbour Yacht Clubs, both just across the water on Hilton Head Island. Both facilities include dock service, as well as dining. At Windmill, which is at Harbour Town is a beautiful restaurant and lounge with a stunning deck that overlooks the entire anchorage and lighthouse. These are exceptional and luxurious memberships that extend services to more than 700 clubs nationwide.
LAWN SPORTS
It’s all fun and games on the great lawn, until someone gets a few points ahead. Bocce rolls upon crushed oyster shells, nearby, wickets await on a regulation croquet court. All this plays out on a grassy square framed by the historic Mansion, tabby ruins and an oak tree formally designated by arborists as a living monument – dating to the signing of the Constitution — now almost 250 years ago.
KIDDING AROUND
Our island, inside and outside the gate is a 5,000-acre playground for kids of all ages. But our Kids’ Camp is reserved for those 5-12 years old. Activities include horseback riding, golf, tennis, trips to Bloody Point Beach, naturalist excursions, archery, crafts and more. Camp counselors are CPR/First Aid-certified and have experience overseeing all camp venues and activities.

The Clubhouses at Haig Point
How we gather is simply put as …always and in good humor. Next is where, which at Haig Point means the Golf Clubhouse, the beachfront Calibogue Club, even the Strachan Mansion for early risers. We start early, and hopefully, stay up late, all fueled by a creative culinary team and tenders behind the bar imbued with special talents.
CALIBOGUE CLUB
Looking for an incredible dining experience and a spectacular view? It’s what makes this the social heart of the community and the definitive place to gather – around the bar, throughout two floors of dining with panoramic views, on a long waterfront screen porch, on the decks and around firepits on the beach as the sun sets. This is also the club’s premier culinary destination – where Low Country favorites are infused with seasonal specials – and always accompanied with gracious service.
HAIG POINT CLUBHOUSE
Two imposing stairways frame the Clubhouse façade, suggestive of the grand and festive gatherings that are a Haig tradition. The Clubhouse is home to the indoor/outdoor dining at the Grill and an exceptionally well-appointed Golf Shop, along with a collection of dining rooms and a ballroom for special events, corporate meetings and weddings. Overlooking a shimmering lake and distant fairway, the Clubhouse is just steps away from the Fitness and Tennis Center, making it a lively staple for everyday dining for all our sporting communities.
HAIG POINT BEACH CLUB
It’s the best of all worlds for kids of all ages. Beach. Pool. Hot Tub. Sunning lounges and shaded pavilions. And, a beach grill serving up all your daytime favorites. And who doesn’t love chicken fingers with a side of fries?
TENNIS & FITNESS CENTER
The Fitness Center, complete with state-of-the-art equipment, is the perfect place to exercise in air-conditioned comfort. Here too is an adult pool ideal for lap swimming, or just relaxing after a few sets on the courts. The Point’s racquet enthusiasts — tennis and pickleball — also make this their home here on six Har-Tru courts. As the main golf-oriented clubhouse is just steps away, these clustered amenities are always lively – another always social scene that makes this such a uniquely close community.
THE STRACHAN MANSION
The Strachan Mansion at Haig Point was built in 1910 on St. Simons Island as a summer retreat. In 1986, the new developers of the community moved the mansion to Haig Point with two barges over three days in some times treacherous waters. The historic building was restored to its magnificence as you see today.
