Welcome to Champions Golf Club
Champions Golf Club, a staple of American dreams made real by founders Jackie Burke Jr. and Jimmy Demaret (1910-1983). A year after his 1956 Masters victory in Augusta, Georgia, Burke opened Champions with Demaret, himself a three-time Masters champion (1940, 1947, 1950), in their hometown of Houston, Texas. They enlisted fellow Houstonian Ralph Plummer to be the architect of the esteemed Cypress Creek course, which opened in 1959. Five years later, the Jackrabbit course, designed by George Fazio, was constructed adjacent to the Cypress Creek course. In 2002, George’s nephew, Tom Fazio, helped update his uncle’s course design.
Over the years, Champions has achieved a well-earned reputation for hosting high-profile events:
1967 Ryder Cup • 1969 U.S. Open • 1993 U.S. Amateur • 1998, 2017 Women’s Mid-Amateur
1990, 1997, 1999, 2001, & 2003 The TOUR Championships
December 10-13, 2020 U.S. Women’s Open
Fundamentally, Champions is a place where golf is played for the right reasons. Competition, skill and fair play remain core values among its members who are committed to excellence.
At Champions Golf Club, you are invited to experience golf the way it’s meant to be played, and a clubhouse where the fondest of memories are made.
Membership at Champions Golf Club
Champions Golf Club is a destination where committed players in Houston (and from around the U.S.) come to play competitive golf at its best. Our sense of tradition and community generates strong loyalty throughout our membership that extends beyond the sport.
Jackie Burke & Jimmy Demaret created a Club with a membership that was devoted to the game, thirsty for competition and driven to be the best golfers they could be! Golf is the passion of our players, and because of this vision Champions has established one of the strongest playing memberships in the country. Members play often to improve their game, enjoy the tranquility of the course and comradery of the members.
In 2018 the famed Cypress Creek course underwent a significant restoration project.
We invite you to be a part of Champions.

In 1957, when the final plans were announced by the press for the golf course, the final question came! What to call this new course?
The decision was to keep it simple but commemorate the dazzling success of Jackie Burke & Jimmy Demaret who together had won all the major titles on the tour. Why not call the course exactly what Jackie & Jimmy truly were – Champions!
Cypress Creek Course
Open for play in 1959 and designed by Ralph Plummer, Cypress Creek was craved into a beautiful forest with over 70,000 trees, wide fairways and enormous greens. It is a premier course rich in history from the 1967 Ryder Cup, 1969 U.S. Open, 4 – Champions International Tournaments, 1990 Nabisco Championship, 1993 U.S. Amateur, 1998 & 2017 U.S. Women’s Mid Amateur and 4 – PGA Tour Championships. At 7,147 yards, it plays to a par 71.
Jackrabbit, designed by George Fazio, opened for play in 1964. While equally as difficult as Cypress Creek, it is totally different. It has narrower fairways, smaller greens and deeper, more numerous bunkers. At 7,018 yards, it plays to a par 71.
