Bent Pine’s mission is to uphold a deep tradition of providing a consistently outstanding golf experience to a membership composed of friendly, compatible people, and to their guests, complemented by distinctive social and dining activities, providing a culture of camaraderie, enjoyed in a comfortable and friendly atmosphere.
Conceived in 1975 and named after the distinctive tree on the eighteenth fairway, Bent Pine Golf Club was opened for play in 1979. A small nucleus of men, mostly from John’s Island Club, had the vision of an intimate private club which would be kept uncrowded enough to afford no structured tee times. The vision was of a championship course boasting rolling fairways, strategically placed bunkers, and challenging greens.
Bent Pine was the first golf facility to be carved out of the sand ridge in once rural Vero Beach. It was a risky and courageous decision by the founding fathers to venture from the barrier island to this totally undeveloped area where few people lived.
Bent Pine became identified early on as one of the masterpieces of noted architect Joe Lee. In addition to Bent Pine, Joe Lee designed many renowned courses including La Costa (CA), Jekyll Island Gold Club (SC), Country Club of Virginia (Tuckahoe Course), St. Clair Country Club (Pittsburgh, PA), Del Mar (Santa Fe, NM), Sea Island (Retreat Course, GA), and Hobe Sound Golf Club (FL).
He also is well known for his sensitive renovation work at Scioto, Bay Hill, Gulfstream, Cog Hill, Pine Tree, Coldstream and Indian Creek. Over the years, the Club has continued to champion the strong culture of our founders. We pride ourselves on presenting golf the way it should be… an impeccably maintained course with no tee times. In addition, we maintain equal course access for women, and a robust program of mixed (couple) events.

Host to six U. S. Open qualifiers, Bent Pine provides a formidable challenge to even the lowest handicappers, while giving all levels of golfer a fair test from all tees. Well-bunkered “Tif-Eagle” greens are characteristic of the course. Lakes, trees and the occasional challenging wind add the final touches to this treasure.
Food is our common ground, a universal experience.
The clubhouse offers panoramic vistas of the manicured greens and lush fairways of the ninth and eighteenth holes, framed by palms, pines, oaks and peaceful lake’s edge. Rich woods, luxurious fabrics, and spacious windows set the tone for the overall sophisticated yet warm ambience. From fireside in the living room, to the friendly bar, to the formal terrace dining room, to the private boardroom, members find Bent Pine the perfect gathering place for friends, food, and fun.
New members are pleasantly surprised to experience the inclusiveness of the Bent Pine community. Golf games are arranged several times a week by the Golf Shop, and new members are especially welcome. Men’s and women’s eighteen-hole and nine-hole games on weekdays, Saturday morning groups for early and late risers, Sunday couples/friends golf, numerous themed tournaments, and monthly Nine and Dine events provide ample opportunities for engagement. Of course, members can golf any day, any time, as you like it, and on your own.
New member Sam Stryker recently commented: “What I loved about joining Bent Pine was how easy it is to get a game. Sign up for any of the men’s groups, you are in immediately. Since you are mixed with different foursomes each time we play, I knew most of the golfers within weeks. ” His wife Ellen added: “I found it exactly the same with the ladies. In no time, I had lots of invites to play golf and attend the Club’s social events with my new friends. It’s such a pleasure to be so welcomed as new members.”
