Tiger Woods Effect Felt in Southwest Florida
NAPLES, Fla. (March 14, 2018)
Tiger Woods’ stellar performance at the PGA TOUR’s Valspar Championship last week not only captivated the golf world but it unwittingly helped bring added interest to Eagle Creek Golf & Country Club in Naples. As referenced throughout the telecast, Innisbrook Resort’s famed Copperhead Course, home of the tournament, was designed by renowned golf course architect Larry Packard. Eagle Creek’s golf course was also designed by Larry Packard and features many of his signature design traits.
“We are the only golf course in Southwest Florida to be originally designed by Larry Packard,” states Jimmy Alston, golf course superintendent at Eagle Creek. “Larry Packard was considered the father of the double dog-leg on par 5’s. He incorporated this feature in many of his designs, including #14 at the Copperhead. Eagle Creek has two such par 5’s, our #11 and #15. Just like the feared ‘Snake Pit’, holes 16 thru 18 at Copperhead, our final three holes challenge even the finest golfers.”
The Tiger Effect was clearly in play as the television networks posted massive ratings. The Copperhead Course successfully withstood the challenge of the professionals and introduced a national audience to a much-lauded Packard designed course. The tournament apparently generated interest in other Packard courses.
“We have seen an increase in golf membership inquiries since the Valspar Championship,” stated Laura Hill, director of marketing. “Our golf course features similar design elements as what the professionals played last week, and local golfers want to experience the same challenges.” Eagle Creek is an intimate, member-owned, private club centrally located between Naples & Marco Island. Resident and non-resident memberships are available. For more information visit www.joineaglecreek.com or contact Laura Hill at (239)-417-6111
