“Clubs Within the Club” at The Landings Club
When it comes to the numbers, those at The Landings Club, a private luxury golf club located 12 miles from historic Savannah, Georgia, are, well, impressive, to say the least.
Consider:
- 108 Golf Holes stretching out over six championship golf courses
- 33 Har-Tru Tennis Courts
- Seven Restaurants
- Five Swimming Pools
- Two marinas
Oh, and an innovative Fitness and Wellness Center to keep you in tip-top shape.
But for Scott Edwards, now in his fourth year as Director of Membership Sales and Marketing, The Landings Club is about more than numbers. It’s about promoting an active lifestyle and resort-style amenities in a vacation setting. It’s about themed restaurants and the largest, Club-based, amateur women’s golf organization in the country.
And it’s about an approved capital plan that will bring with it an updated clubhouse, a brand new, casual-dining facility and an expansion of the Fitness and Wellness Center.
We recently talked with Scott about this extraordinary property, with a particular focus on what is called “Clubs Within the Club.”
1. We hear about these “Clubs Within the Club.” What does that mean?
Well, its’s easy to make friends in a private club like The Landings Club. We’re privileged to have the second largest women’s golf association in the nation, second only to the LPGA. The Landings Women’s Golf Association is a well-organized group of active women who enjoy the game of golf and look forward to meeting and getting to know others who also love the game. We also have the L9GA dedicated to ladies who enjoy 9-hole golf and the LMGA for our male golfers. Those are just clubs focused on golf. We also have active tennis leagues with the LWTA (Landings Women’s Tennis Association) with over 150 members, an active Pickleball league with over 400 members and a mixed adult bocce league with over 600 members.
If you’re more of a nature buff, we have many active groups dedicated to preserving and helping/assisting/loving our natural habitat, such as Landlovers and the Skidaway Audubon Association, which helped in naming our community an Audubon Sanctuary (we’re the first in Georgia). The Landings Art Association is full of dedicated artists, whose work is showcased across our Club. We also have clubs based on your home state, motorcycles, religion, bird watching, bridge, education, etc.
2. How often do the Pickleball and Bocce leagues play, and how do members go about learning each of those games?
We have a top-notch court sports program here at The Landings Club. Our talented professionals are on hand to help members in a one-on-one setting, or with specialized clinics held throughout the year. However, court sports at The Landings Club is a community building activity. Members flock to the courts to have a fun night out with their friends and end up staying and learning the game from each other.
With over 600 members in the Mixed Adult Bocce League and over 400 in the pickleball league, it’s a fun way to make friends and be active.
3. What kinds of works of the Landings Art Association are showcased across the Club?
We celebrate the artists in our Club. Permanently on display at the Plantation Clubhouse are original pieces from members of the Landings Art Association that rotate every month. We’ve had beautiful pieces of art including traditional style paintings, found art projects, ceramics and even jewelry.
4. The specific clubs for one’s home state, motorcycles, etc., are really interesting. How does a new member go about discovering the names of all of these different clubs and getting involved with the ones they like?
We have all that information. Contact the membership department!
5. Are there volunteer opportunities that would allow club members to contribute to the community?
Yes! We are an island of volunteers. It all depends on what matters to you. We have many volunteer opportunities dedicated to our natural surroundings like Landings Landlovers, who do numerous events and socials throughout the year, or Coastal Conservation Association who focuses on marine conservation. Have a green thumb? Join our community garden, Skidaway Farms where you can grow your own plants, vegetables or fruit while getting to know your neighbors. Perhaps our largest volunteer opportunity is our annual Savannah Golf Championship, an official part of the Web.com Tour, played on our Deer Creek course. Members get to experience the rising stars of the PGA TOUR from their backyards!
